Overview of Training Topics
Compass is a handheld compression assist device which uses the sterile, disposable SuperComfort™ Disc. Practitioners apply external pressure using Compass in much the same way that they would apply manual pressure, except that Compass makes the hemostasis procedure more comfortable for both them and their patients.
Compass finds use in cardiac catheterization labs, interventional radiology labs, and post-interventional nursing care units in place of manual compression. Convenient and easy to clean, it enables practitioners to enjoy greater convenience and comfort for themselves and their patients during hemostasis, providing a safe, effective alternative to manual compression.
Compass is indicated for use in providing hemostasis of the femoral vascular access site during and following catheterization or cannulation procedures. Additional caution is recommended when Compass is used on patients who have had previous iliac grafts or stents, or where compression times are expected to exceed one hour.
Certain precautions should be taken when using the CompressAR System:
- Compass should be deployed by a physician, nurse, or technician experienced with transfemoral catheterization.
- Patients
- Hypertensive patients -- require greater compression pressure than normotensive patients.
- Obese patients -- precise location of the femoral artery proximal to the wound site prior to sheath removal is important.
